Impact in Action
Youth Champions closed out the school year with a milestone moment: more than $300,000 distributed to nearly 400 inner-city Los Angeles students – the largest investment in the organization’s history and a clear signal of its commitment to opening doors for the next generation.
But this wasn’t a handout. It was earned. Students committed to their own growth through 24 workshops focused on financial literacy, business skills, and success-driven mindsets, alongside six in-person field trips that pushed them beyond the classroom. From navigating a high ropes course to building confidence at a live networking event, each experience was designed to turn learning into action. This year’s events featured a unique event – the World Cup Symposium, Youth Champions’ largest single-day event, where nearly 250 students gathered to hear from leaders like multi-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist Joy Fawcett and Los Angeles FIFA Host City Director Brandy Thigpen – bringing global opportunity into sharp, tangible focus.
That same momentum extended online. Through the Ignite Speaker Series, a monthly webinar connecting students with authors, influencers, and top entrepreneurs, hundreds of participants engaged in conversations that expanded their sense of what’s possible. Among them, Miller McCoy – owner of one of Inc.’s fastest-growing companies in Los Angeles – drew the largest audience, sharing his unconventional path of turning passion into a thriving business.
Yet the true measure of impact is best captured in the voices of the students themselves. Daynnalie, an 11th grader from HPIAM, shared: “Before this program I was someone who tried to stay in their comfort zone…This program has taught me that though it is scary, it is a necessity to get out of my comfort zone to grow, because I am not growing if I feel safe.”
Moments like these reveal what the numbers alone cannot: a growing community where students are not only supported, but challenged – where access meets opportunity, and where young people begin to see, and step into, what their futures can become.
