The program will take place from 10:00AM until 1:00PM for volunteers. Please note that the market hours will be from 9:00AM until 2:00PM, so if you arrive before 10:00AM, there may be no volunteers.
The market is located at:
The corner of Grandview and Venice Blvd.: 3826 Grand View Blvd. LA, CA 90066 Mar Vista 90066.
For shoppers it is recommend to ask Access to drop you at this address: 12236 Pacific Avenue, Los Angeles 90066.
This is a building by a laundromat, and through the laundromat parking lot you can get into the market. Please note the drop off address is near some residential buildings. When you arrive please notify Frank at 213-361-2075 by call or text.
Mar Vista will have a table for Hunger Action LA not far from the info booth. Take note: It is a HUGE market.
Shoppers: please arrange your ride home and notify Frank ahead of time so they can make sure you get where you need to be at the right time. ACCESS will be helping to coordinate the rides home! Many thanks to ACCESS and to Yael for arranging this.
Volunteers: Please try to arrive a little before 10:00AM so that you can be there to meet shoppers. The market is big and folks will need help being guided to the table that Mar Vista Farmers Market always graciously prepares for Hunger Action LA.
If you’ve never participated before, here’s what it is:
HALA’s BLV Healthy Food Program has a Blind or Low Vision Shopping day. These days are very special for both the volunteers and the shoppers.
- Blind or low vision shoppers are paired with volunteers with sight.
- The volunteers help guide the shoppers through the farmers market so the shoppers can feel, taste and smell the wonderful produce at the market.
This is one of LA’s biggest farmers markets, with a wide selection of prepared foods as well as fruits and vegetables. Tamales, pastries, sandwiches, Vietnamese food, Korean barbecue — its all there. Hunger Action LA will provide shoppers with tokens or vouchers to buy a little something.
